10 Skin Care Tips for Great Skin All Winter

1. Drink water...

Hydrate your skin from within by drinking lots of water. Carry a bottle with you when you go outside. Herbal tea is also great when it's really cold. Your skin will soon have a healthy glow. So drink up and don't let your skin go thirsty. We are sure you have heard the saying that if you feel thirsty, then it is too late, you are already too dehydrated... forget this, drink whenever you feel thirsty and remember that it doesn't just have to be water, although water is best, any liquid will have water in it and so therefore assist with ensuring you are keeping hydrated.

2. Exfoliate...

Dry skin always looks dull and lifeless. The dead surface skin cells don't reflect light which is why they tend to look flat and lifeless. By exfoliating the skin surface immediately looks brighter. As well, there is another reason why exfoliation is so important; it's been scientifically proven that you reduce the chances of getting skin cancer if you regularly exfoliate. Once or twice a week depending on your skin type is enough; if you exfoliate too often it can dry out your skin. If you do feel your skin getting dry then just exfoliate once a week. As well as leaving your skin looking all bright and dewy by exfoliating the dead skin cells away, exfoliating also assists in the penetration of good skin care into the layers where it will have the most benefit. If you haven't tried Ultraceuticals Exfoliating Gel for your face then you are really missing out on a great product.

3. Sun block, YES even in winter...

Don't be lulled into a false sense of security. Even in winter you still need to protect your skin from UV damage. Even on overcast days the UVA light is capable of causing damage to your skin so keep the sun block on during day light hours, but don't forget to wash it off well at night as your broad spectrum sun block has some very nasty chemicals that it is better to cleanse off the skin when you don't need them.

4. Omega Rich diet

Seriously, Omega is a gift from the Gods. They improve your skin, your hair, your nails and your brain. As well as taking supplements you can get your daily Omega from your food, so you need to incorporate fish and nuts into your diet. Omega can help relieve the symptoms of over 70 health conditions. Studies show that women who exercise and take fish oil have less risk of bone density loss and general inflammation. Bottom line is Omega is important to your overall health, so eat your nuts and take your Omega capsules every day and reap the benefits.

5. Oil for moisture...

Nature provides us with a bounty of beautiful oils that work not just on our body but also on our souls. Jojoba oil in particular will help your skin stay moisturised in winter, plus you will feel like you are spoiling yourself (as you should) with this luxurious product. Jojoba oil is actually wax not an oil and is very easily absorbed by the skin. By adding essential oils to your base oil you can benefit from a wonderful anti-aging regime as well as leaving yourself feeling calm and relaxed. If you are not up for mixing your own face and body oils then go onto our website as we have some amazing oil blends that will leave both body and soul feeling soft and silky smooth. Stay away from BIO oil & Baby oil as these both have mineral oils in them yuck!

6. Keep those lips kissable all winter

Winter is always a challenging time for your lips. You may find that they dry out more in winter due to the cold and the drying effects of heaters. You need to be regularly applying a good quality lip balm to your lips so that they stay moisturised. Try not to let your lips get too dry otherwise they could start cracking and it will take a while to heal them. It's important that you are vigilant in this area as you never know when you are going to get your next kiss.

7. Vitamin C inside and out

There are not too many people that would dispute that Vitamin C assists you in dogging colds and sniffles in winter, but few know that it can also aid in stimulating collagen and elastin when applied topically to your skin. We highly recommend thateveryone puts Vitamin C and E onto their face daily because they protect against UV induced cell damage. It is this sun damage that not only causes premature aging but also skin cancers. However, there is even more good news when it comes to Vitamin C, one of its properties is that it includes one of the few ingredients that has a science base to show that it reverses signs of aging to the skin.

8. Change your Moisturiser

In summer we tend to go for light moisturisers as we don't want oily products on our skin. In winter you may find that you may need to change your daily moisturiser to one that is richer. With the use of heaters and the cold air outside you will find that your skin definitely dries out more so by adding a richer moisturising cream you will avoid dry, lifeless looking skin. Oils are also a wonderful way to keep moisture in your skin.Remember it is easier to keep your skin moisturised rather than having to re-hydrate it if it gets too dry.

9. Masks for Moisture

Make sure you regularly use a mask at least twice a week during the winter months. Masks tend to be heavier and have more active ingredients in them. Some masks can actually be left on the skin overnight to provide even more intense hydration, it also seems like a waste to wash off all that goodness before it has had a chance to be totally absorbed by the skin. Winter is also a good time to regularly apply masks to your feet and hands.

10. Supper Hot? Infrared saunas not baths

We know that when you are cold to the bone you are tempted to run yourself a really hot bath and lie around for a while warming yourself to the bone, but believe it or not the intense heat of a super hot bath breaks down the lipid barriers in the skin which reduces the ability of the body to retain moisture. You are better off to have a warm bath or if you really want to warm yourself up and burn calories and detox your body all at the same time then have an infrared sauna. The health benefits are amazing and you will feel warm for hours after.
